Few people have left a bigger impression on our culture and heritage than former South African President Nelson Mandela, both in terms of the Western Cape and the country as a whole. The province is made up of a number of historic landmarks and this is celebrated in the form of the Madiba Legacy Route. From the iconic Robben Island, where he was once imprisoned, to the recently unveiled statue at City Hall, where he made his first speech as a free man, visitors can retrace the great man's steps in the Western Cape.
